A Compassionate people

Everyone has to decide how they will live their life. How they will treat friends, family and strangers. Bible believers have a way we are taught to live. Jesus told Christians to be like him. The apostle Paul says in Phiippians 2:5-7:

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God as something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!

John writes in 1 John 4:7-12

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is Love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning, sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

God is living in us. GOD IS LIVING IN US! His love is carried out through us. We are his hands and feet! One of the mysteries of God’s love is not that He takes away our pain, but that He is willing to share in our suffering. God is with us. Again John says it best, 1 John 3:16-20:

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers, If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

To be a compassionate and merciful person we must do. We have to act. Compassion and mercy should not be considered feeling. You are not compassionate if you simply feel bad for someone who is struggling. Compassionate people are compassionate because they seek out a way to show the love they have in their hearts. The love we have in our hearts is God’s love. He was merciful and compassionate to us and we are to continue to share this love with the rest of the world. Sharing this love is much more than simply teaching the bible. We need to be with people who are struggling just as God is with us.
